The World Revives

The three team members from the elite team in North America staggered through the halls of the Agency at an ungodly hour. To add to their exhaustion was the fact that they had just come off of 48 hours without sleep while on a sting.

“What do you think the Director wants with us?” the lone female of the group asked.

“I don’t know, but it wasn’t the Director that called me, it was Mac,” one of the males added.

“Li Ann called me,” the other man said. They entered the briefing room and stopped dead. At the table, instead of the Director, was a redheaded woman that they had never seen before.

“Ah, class you may be seated,” the woman said with a purr in her voice.

“Who the hell are you?”

“Sara, that is not something that is very smart to say to the Head of the Agency,” Li Ann Tsei said entering the room, followed closely by Mac Ramsey.

“Where’s the Director?” Mac asked.

“That’s what I’m here for. Sit down and introduce me to the new crew,” the Head said from her chair. They all took their customary places at the table.

“Well, this is Sara Higgins, Matt Conners,” pointing to the blond, “and Trevor Sky,” pointing to the young black man.

“Are they any good?”

“They won a lot of the awards at the Agency Awards this year. They aren’t our league but they are pretty good. Now where is the Director?”

“We received word that one of the Consortium members that we put in jail all those many years ago, has broken out. We warned all of you, but we knew that the Vic might be in danger. Turns out we were right. Vic was supposed to meet me for a very late dinner so that we could discuss what we were going to do. He never showed. I sent Dobie to his house and found the place broken into and ransacked. He also found a used needle with a sedative and Vic’s blood in it. I don’t think I need to tell you what they would want with him.”

“I told you we should have killed them all when we had the chance,” Mac mumbled.

“Speaking of killing, have you contacted the Cleaners? I know they would want on this,” Li Ann added.

“Oh yes. They were one of the first that I talked to. They should be here within the hour. I also contacted all of the other Directors-”

“Wait. There are other Directors?” Matt asked. Li Ann and Mac just rolled their eyes.

“I’m sure the Directors of Europe and Australia weren’t happy,” Mac said.

“That is an understatement,” the Head responded.

“What about his trackers?” Li Ann asked.

“They are headed in completely different directions. We can’t count on those, but we are keeping an eye on them, just in case they only found one of them. Mulder and Nathan are working on research, as are the Lone Gunmen. They will call us if they find anything.” She turned to the three team members. “The three of you will help them go through all of the information they have. There is too much just for the two of them. Mac and Li Ann will do most of the leg work.”

“Hey! Wait a minute. Why do we get the research? We are the active team. Mac and Li Ann don’t do field work,” Sara complained.

“They have been doing field work for longer then you have been in school. I know them, I trust them. I don’t know you so I’m not going to put Victor’s life in your hands. Not until I need you. Take it up with him once we get him back. Dismissed.” The Head stood up and headed up the stairs.

Sara turned to Mac and Li Ann. “The Director’s name is Victor?”

“Along with others. We don’t really know what his real name was. He’s never told, we don’t even know if he knows. We really don’t know much about him, he doesn’t talk much. Now get downstairs and help Mulder and Nathan,” Mac ordered. As they were leaving the Head came back down and Li Ann activated the microphones in the hallway.

“Man, that woman was almost as scary as the Director,” Trevor said.

“Yeah, but not quite. I rather have her then the Director any day. That man is just freaky,” Matt added. The Head’s eyebrows raised.

“Victor is scarier then me?” she asked.

“Oh yeah, you should see him in action, Victoria. He can put you to shame on your scariest days. He’s like he was when Mac and I went to go see Mulder that first time, only about fifty percent scarier.”

“That is almost hard to believe, but I did teach him well.”

“How did Allegra take the news?” Mac asked.

“She was not happy to say the least. She will have Australia on guard. One of the trackers is headed her way.”

“Oh I don’t want to see what she will do to the guy with the tracker if it turns out it isn’t in Victor. I hear she is almost as scary of a Director as Vic is,” Li Ann said.

“I saw her in action a few months ago, I have to admit she did me proud.”

“Why haven’t you been to visit us? We’ve missed you, Victoria,” Mac said pouting.

“I haven’t been to visit because I knew Victor would have everything under control and there were other places that I knew I had to clean up first. Asia was a mess. Dobronski did the best job he could, but he needed the help. I was planning on visiting, just not this soon.”

“So what are we sitting around here for?” Mac asked, glancing over at the door.

“We are waiting for the Cleaners. I want them here before you go gallivanting off to go save your Love. Before you go though, I know Mulder wants to talk to you.”

Mac frowned as he thought of his other lover. “How is he holding up?”

“About as well as you. In shock, disbelief. We will find him, Mac. You have my word on that. And this time we will kill the bastards that did this. They don’t mess with my people,” Victoria growled.

“You have our word as well, Mr. Ramsey that we will find Victor in one piece and alive,” a cultured voice came from the door. Mac and Li Ann spun around to find Murphy and Camier.

“Good to see you guys. How has retirement been?” Li Ann asked.

“Boring. We were about to come to Victor and asked to be put on the part-time rolls. Now what do we know about Victor’s attackers?” Murphy asked.

After explaining to the Cleaners the small amount of evidence that they had collected, they headed down to the records area where Mulder and Nathan worked. To the surprise of everyone, Mulder and Nathan hit it off immediately and when they had been able to pick what area they wanted to work in, it had surprised no one when Mulder chose research. It had made getting information much easier, since people could talk to Mulder and then he could go to Nathan and get the information, but to be honest after they had put Nathan on a prescription drug he had gotten much easier to deal with. Mac caught Mulder’s eye and motioned to an empty room. Mulder nodded and they walked into the room. Mac shut the door and immediately found Mulder in his arms.

“Are you okay, Fox?” Mac asked, holding his lover close.

“I’m worried as hell, but I would imagine that you are feeling the same way,” Mulder mumbled into Mac’s shoulder.

“We’ll find him. We always did, or he will escape and find his way back to us. After they didn’t just kidnap Victor, they got Cory and Alex added to the mix too. We’ll find him, I promise,” Mac whispered.

“I know. Nathan and I already have some pretty good leads on the guy who took him.” Mulder leaned back to look at Mac.

“Really? That was quick.”

Mulder looked down at the buttons of Mac’s shirt. “Actually, Vic had Nathan and me work on finding the son of a bitch when he first learned that he had escaped.”

“How long ago was that?”

“Three days ago.”

“And no one told me?”

“You and Li Ann were deep undercover. Vic didn’t think it was dangerous. None of us imagined that they guy would be stupid enough to go after him. We thought he would go after me.”

Mac frowned. “Victoria said that everyone figured that they would go after Vic. God, if she is up to her head games again…”

“She’s always up to head games, Mac. You should be used to it. After all we are fucking the master of head games. Victor out shines Tori in that.”

“Just don’t let Victoria hear you calling her Tori. You know that she is still pissed that we finally found out her first name. Oh by the way, the kids know that Victor is one of the Director’s names. We mentioned Alex and Cory as well and told them that we never found out what his name really was.”

“You know that is actually true. We’ve never found his birth certificate and there is the possibility that Victor wasn’t the original personality. It’s possible that the kid was the first and that Victor showed up later. We might never know what his real name was.”

“Okay, Fox, thank you. I really didn’t need to hear that right now. Right now all I want to think about is getting his ass back here. Then you and I are keeping it in bed for the next thirty years.”

“Thirty years?” Fox asked with a smile.

“I just pulled a number out of the air. But it sounded good right?”

“It sounds great, but I don’t think Vic would agree with it. You know how he is.”

“Yeah. Well, we better get back out there and find him. Then I’m gonna rip him a new one for not telling me everything.” Mac started towards the door, but was stopped by a hand on his arm. He turned to look at Fox who leaned over for a quick kiss and then opened the door.
